“A towel,” The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy reminds us, “is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.” Even if you never plan to step foot off planet Earth, it’s still wise to carry—and openly display—your towel on May 25th. We’re celebrating all week—because what library doesn’t love Douglas Adams’ practicality?
Traveling? Hitting the beach, and checking out other libraries for the Explore MORE Passport Program? Armed with a towel, you are ready. Sudden rainstorm? Wet dog? No problem. Produce your handy towel to dry yourself, your children, the dog, mop off a car seat—and you’re good to go. An unexpected cool breeze? Need shade from the sun? Protection for your library materials? Or simply the comforting feel of cotton terry cloth between your fingers? Your towel has you covered—literally.
Take Adams’ advice: “Not only can you wrap it around yourself for warmth, but it can give you control of your life if you know where your towel is at all times.”
So proudly carry your towel this May 25th! (And beyond.)
Come to the library for your Explore MORE Passport and get your passport sticker. While you’re here, check out our upcoming Summer Reading programming for all ages. Maybe even request a copy of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy… Then head off and explore—with your towel and library card in hand, ready for any adventure.
