“We can all agree on the importance of voting.” ~ Jenna Bush, American news personality, author, and journalist and one of twin daughters of the 43rd U.S. President, George W. Bush, and former First Lady Laura Bush

Election Week is a time to recognize the true heroes of democracy — the voters. Every ballot cast represents a commitment to the future, a desire to shape the community, and an active role in making voices heard. Voters are heroes because they represent the very essence of democracy in action. By showing up, whether at a polling place or via absentee ballot, they are affirming their belief in the power of individual choice. Each vote strengthens the foundation of our society, ensuring diverse perspectives are heard. Without voters, there is no true representation, and democracy falters.

Libraries have long been champions of informed decision-making. They are community-centered, offering resources and support to ensure everyone has access to information, so voters are empowered to make informed decisions. During election season, libraries provide access to unbiased information about candidates and issues. The materials and resources available at your local library help people understand the topics that impact their lives. Libraries serve as trusted, neutral spaces where everyone can seek answers, explore diverse viewpoints, and gather knowledge, free from political influence.

This Election Week, take pride in your role as a voter. Every ballot cast is a step toward a better future, a more engaged community, and a more responsive government. Your participation matters, and without voters, change cannot happen. Be confident that you are a hero this Election Week; you made your voice count!

Going forward, know that you can always visit your library to learn more about the issues that matter to you. Know too, that when you vote, you’re not just participating in an election — you’re shaping the future of your community.

P.S. The onset of November marks the beginning of the NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month. If you have a book idea floating in your head, this is the time to start the one-month sprint to a finished, albeit rough, novel. Start writing. More information next week. If you need resources, reach out to your library.

“There’s no such thing as a vote that doesn’t matter.”~ Barack Obama, 44th president of the United States from 2009 to 2017.
