“Dogs are better than human beings because they know but do not tell.” — Emily Dickinson

No matter the day or mood, pets just get us. Whether it’s a wagging tail at the door, a content purr in your lap, or a reptile side-eye that somehow says “you’re doing great,” pets bring joy, comfort, and unconditional love to our lives.

That’s why we’re celebrating National Pet Week®, May 4–10! Founded by the American Veterinary Medical Association in 1981, this special week highlights the deep bond between humans and their furry, feathered, finned (or even scaled) companions. It also promotes responsible pet care all year long—because our pets deserve the very best from us in return.

Whether your pet is your hiking buddy, cuddle coach, or quiet observer of your Zoom meetings, they count on you to keep them healthy and happy. Your veterinarian plays a big role in that, and so does your local library!

We’ve got books, resources, and digital tools to help with pet training, nutrition, behavior, and more. Planning to add a new pet to the family? We can help you get prepared. Already a seasoned pet pro? We’ve got new tips and reads for that too.

“Cats have it all—admiration, an endless sleep, and company only when they want it.” — Rod McKuen
“Time spent with cats is never wasted.” — Sigmund Freud

So, snuggle up with your pet and a good book—both are loyal companions for life.
