“To kindness and love, the things we need most!” — The Grinch
Valentine’s Day week invites us to celebrate love in all its forms—romantic, familial, friendly, and communal. We share cards, gifts, special meals, and small acts of kindness that remind us how much connection matters. This week also brings two fitting celebrations on February 14: International Book Giving Day and Library Lover’s Day.
Libraries show their love for their users every single day. They do it by offering free access to books, technology, programs, and welcoming spaces—no purchase required, no judgment given. Libraries are built on care for the people they serve: readers, learners, families, students, job seekers, and neighbors of all ages.
Looking for a thoughtful novel, books about kindness and compassion, help with a resume, or simply a quiet place to breathe? Your library is there for you. Library staff work every day to connect people with information, opportunities, and one another—because communities thrive when everyone feels welcome.
This Valentine’s season is also a great time to show your library some love in return. Stop in for a visit, check out a book, leave a kind review, or encourage a friend to sign up for a library card. These small acts help libraries continue doing what they do best: serving people with generosity and heart.
International Book Giving Day reminds us that sharing stories is an act of kindness. As Aesop said, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” Even the Grinch learned that lesson.
This week, celebrate love that’s freely given. Visit your library—because your library loves you back.
