November honors the more than sixty-three million Americans—one in four adults—who provide unpaid care to loved ones. That’s a 45% increase since 2015, up by twenty million people. Caregiving can be deeply rewarding, but it also comes with significant emotional, physical, and financial challenges. One in four caregivers provides 40 or more hours of care each week and spends an average of $7,200 annually out of pocket. Caregivers balance these responsibilities while raising children or working full-time, making support more vital than ever.
Wisconsin, Governor Tony Evers has proclaimed November 2025 as Family Caregiver Month, recognizing the essential role caregivers play in supporting the health, dignity, and quality of life of loved ones. Family caregivers across the state provide more than 540 million hours of unpaid care each year, valued at $9.2 billion. This month and every month, we honor their dedication, compassion, and strength.
Each week of November highlights a different caregiving theme: Free Time, Paid Respite, Social Time with Friends & Family, and People Willing to Help. These themes encourage caregivers to take time for themselves and to seek connection and support.
If you’re a caregiver, you’re not alone—and your local library can help. Libraries offer free access to books, online guides, and community resources on topics like caregiving, health, and self-care. Libraries also provide quiet spaces for a moment’s rest or reflection.
