Gloria Hutton’s Donation Celebrates a Lifetime of Service, Community, and Learning
The Geraldine E. Anderson Village Library of Dresser has received a generous $25,000 donation from Gloria Hutton in memory of her husband, Charles “Chuck” Hutton, whose life was defined by service, hard work, faith, and dedication to his community
The gift fulfills a wish Chuck Hutton expressed before his passing in November 2025 at the age of 90.
“Chuck believed deeply in the importance of libraries and lifelong learning,” said Gloria Hutton. “He wanted to give back to a place that helps bring people together and opens doors for everyone.”
Chuck Hutton was a longtime resident of the area whose life reflected the values that shaped generations of rural Midwestern communities. A U.S. Army veteran, lifelong farmer, and employee of both Johnson Feed Mill and Byron Dresser Trap Rock, he was known for his strong work ethic, steadfast faith, love of agriculture, and commitment to family. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Amery and the American Legion Post 143 in St. Croix Falls. His family remembers him for his warm spirit, beautiful singing voice, and his enduring appreciation for John Deere equipment, often remarking, “Nothing runs like a Deere.”
“This extraordinary gift is both a generous investment in our future and a beautiful tribute to Chuck’s life,” said Leann French, Library Director. “His story reflects many of the values that are important to our community—service, humility, perseverance, and a commitment to helping others. We are deeply honored that Gloria chose to celebrate Chuck’s memory through a gift that will benefit library patrons for generations to come.”
Library Board President, Cathy Frandsen, said “The Hutton family’s generosity will help us continue to grow and meet the changing needs of our community. This $25,000 donation is among the most significant private gifts in the library’s recent history and it will have a lasting impact on library services and community members.”
Frandsen added, “This gift honors Chuck’s legacy while creating opportunities for learning and discovery for people of all ages.”
The library plans to recognize the Hutton family’s generosity and commemorate Chuck Hutton’s legacy as part of future renovation and improvement efforts.
