June signals the start of summer—a season full of discovery at your local library. School’s out, warm days ahead, it’s the perfect time to join the Unearth a Story Summer Reading Challenge and explore engaging programs for all ages.

The Explore MORE Passport Program begins June 2. Pick up your passport, collect a sticker from your home library, and visit others in the MORE consortium. With up to 54 libraries to explore, each stop is a fun exploration and earns you entries for exciting prizes.

June is Audiobook Appreciation Month, highlighting a flexible and accessible way to enjoy stories. Audiobooks are ideal for people with limited time, low vision, or busy schedules—and they’re simply enjoyable. You can listen while gardening, walking, or driving, and easily pick up where you left off.

Your library card gives you free access to audiobooks through the Libby app, available on smartphones and tablets. Libraries also offer audiobooks on CD. Nearly 40% of audiobook listening happens through public libraries, making them a key resource for readers everywhere.

As author Mark Haddon said, “I haven’t read a book properly until I’ve had it read to me.” If you’re new to audiobooks, summer is the perfect time to start. Stop by the library for help getting set up and learn about the summer programs being offered.

All you need is curiosity—and your library card.
